Lot Essay

The present work appears to be a study for the Delville's monumental work, Le Cycle passionnel, 1880 (Private collection). Delville shows his skill and dexterity at depicting multiple entwined nude forms, frequently depicting only a small amount of each body entwined to suggest the emergence of whole entwined forms.
