Lot Essay

This work was executed by Picasso on a leaf from M. Gasser, Picasso Der Maler und sein modell, Zurich, 1972. The work includes an accompanying and separate dedication on the frontispiece, which is signed, dated and inscribed 'Pour mon Ami Stehelin Picasso le 4.5.72.’. Dr Jean Stéhelin was Picasso's close friend and trusted physician for many years, as the warmth and familiarity of the present composition attests.
