Lot Essay

Compare the gilt-bronze figure of seated Buddha of similar proportions, but of slightly smaller size (20 cm. high) and with robes engraved overall with floral patterns, in the Capital Museum, Beijing, illustrated in Gems of Beijing Cultural Relics Series - Buddhist Statues I, Beijing, 2001, p. 212, no. 180. The Capital Museum figure is dated by inscription to the 21st year of Kangxi, corresponding to 1682.
