Compare the Cizhou cream-glazed pillow carved on the top with a phoenix standing next to a blossoming peony flower, illustrated in the catalogue for the Osaka Municipal Museum exhibition, Charm of Black and White ware: Transition of Cizhou type wares, Osaka, 2002, no. 21 and subsequently sold at Christie's New York, 23-24 March 2023, lot 1017.

The result of Oxford Authentication Ltd. thermoluminescence test no. P108c44 is consistent with the dating of this lot.
