Lot Essay

The present work was initially owned by German-born photographer, Ellen Auerbach, who was close friends with Porter and his family. Auerbach was primarily known for her avant-garde portrait photography, examples of which can be found in numerous institutions, including the Getty Center, Los Angeles, California.
