Lot Essay

The illustration for page 11 represented above was an early version used in the first edition of the book. A few years after the first printing of the book some of the drawings were temporarily mislaid so Potter had to prepare fresh illustrations. She took this opportunity to enlarge the figure of Benjamin Bunny which appears in the later printings. [A History of the Writings of Beatrix Potter, Leslie Linder, London: Frederick Warne & Co., 1971. p. 147].
