This bird can be found across Europe and Asia. It is quite widespread in Scandinavia and central Norway,Sweden and around the top of the Baltic Sea into Finland. The bird lives in remote, undisturbed forests far from human comunities. It prefers old conifer forests or mixed woodlands with clearings.
