Further details
'Each fall I Look forward to the morning I am awakened by the deafening Kroooo of the Sandhills returning from their summer nesting grounds in Canada and northern United States. Flying in large flocks, the Sandhills descend on refuges in New Mexico to winter.
In October and November the Sandhills remain in large flocks to feed and roost. As the food is found by the group, feeding begins and individual birds take turns watching for danger. There is always a pair of searching eyes providing protection. With the "Sentinel" on duty, the Sandhills are never surprised."
