"Spring comes so slowly, from one day to the next small changes are seen in the river, such as an ice-floe that collapsed or smaller ones that disappeared. This is an environment that the dipper enjoys. It makes short, eager food forages in the river, only to then fly to another part of the river with open water. The birds seem to treasure the early spring weather, a sensual pleasure in which the artist heartily concurs despite the unpredicability of the weather."
