The present Primo 4 Jukebox model is preserved in like new overall condition. Its lavish presentation box is in macassar ebony, the 36-note musical movement plays automatically Waltz No. 2 by Shostakovitch when the box is opened.
An incredible tour-de-force of mechanical ingenuity, the “Primo 4 Jukebox” was made in a limited edition of 50 pieces in each white, pink and yellow gold in 2007.
The Primo 4 is the only mechanical watch with a musical function that provides four tunes on four separate musical discs. It is fitted with the mechanical cal. MF-which took four years to develop. With 577 components, 36 rubies and 28,800 vibrations/hour providing 40 hours of autonomy, the Primo 4 offers four different melodies which can be chosen on demand.
The music, stored on four separate mini-discs located at the four points of the compass, is read using the principle of the juke box. To listen to a tune, it suffices to press the push button situated at 7 o’clock, which sets in motion the reading mechanism, moving the discs to the note comb. This operation can be repeated as often as wished.
One of the major challenges in designing the Primo 4 was to provide the case with perfect acoustics. Research was carried out on the bridges and the base-plate as well as the case’s false bottom which was to act as a sound box. The sapphire glass also took twelve months to develop, in order to perfectly transmit the sound vibrations. Different patents have been filed for this unique and exceptional system.
The result is a remarkable watch, intended for music lovers and connoisseurs of exceptional timepieces.

The historic Mermod Frères brand was revived in Sainte-Croix in 2007. The company was originally founded in 1816 by the four sons of Louis Mermod. During the 19th century the firm became very famous and successful, particularly in central and Eastern Europe. The business extended to making mechanical music, and producing outstanding pieces. In 1929, the economic depression caused the business to close. Mermod Frères took part in many Universal Exhibitions and won the astounding number of 27 gold medals.
