Lot Essay

Technically, this impressive new complication cannot be underestimated, the new automatic caliber 31-260 PS QA LU FUS 24H movement was especially created for the model and as a result, eight new Patek Philippe patents were filed. Aesthetically, it is equally impressive, and whilst resolutely contemporary, it clearly references Patek Philippe’s vintage DNA in the hobnail decoration of the 41 mm. case, and in addition, the sublime granular charcoal grey dial lends the perfect mid-century vibe.

Combining for the first time Patek Philippe’s annual calendar function (introduced in 1996) with the travel time function (1997) is a significant achievement in itself. These two complications are perfectly complementary so that the watch is very practical, useful and easy to operate. A new and ingenious patented system first seen in 2021, whereby adjustments to both time zones are made by the single crown eliminated the need for pushers in the case band so that the design of this new model is overall much more streamlined. The most remarkable feature of the reference 5326 is that the annual calendar, which automatically corrects for the number of days in each month, only requiring a single adjustment annually in February, is allied to the local time rather than home time. This entirely new system gives the calendar mechanism the ability to adjust forward and backward together with the setting of the second time zone.

A source of great pride for Patek Philippe and undoubtedly set to become a classic, reference 5326G was featured on the cover of the official 2022 Collection Patek Philippe Catalogue.
