Further details
This work is from a series of paintings that Motherwell executed in black acrylic paint applied over screen-printed trial proofs he had created in 1970. The screen-printed image is entirely painted over, with the exception of the artist’s initials in the upper left corner. Motherwell added the 1973 date by hand.
