Lot Essay

This print was made around 2013 and is based on the original black and white photograph of Jean Patchett, taken by Erwin Blumenfeld, and has been colorised to closely resemble the 1950 Vogue US cover of the American model. This re-creation of the Vogue cover has been published as the cover of Patchett’s biography, American Goddess by Robert and Lois Allen Lilly (Powerhouse Books, 2019). It is also part of the current exhibition at the Villa Medici in Rome Chromotherapia, curated by Maurizio Cattelan and Sam Stourdze (Feb-June 2025), and features in the exhibition catalogue, Chromotherapia (Damiana eds, 2025).

We are grateful to the Estate of Erwin Blumenfeld for their assistance in cataloguing this lot.
