Lot Essay

The design of this carpet relates to a small number of surviving Savonnerie carpets attributed to the designer Pierre-Josse Perrot (1678-1750). Active from 1715 to 1750, his designs are frequently composed of a central ‘rose moresque’ motif within a moulded cartouche, such as one which sold in these Rooms, 10 December 2009, lot 600. In the same sale, that lot was immediately followed by another Arraiolos Carpet, also of Louis XV design, lot 601.
