Lot Essay

In 2007, Patek Philippe launched the reference 5159G-001, a successor reference to the 5059 that was originally unveiled in 1998. Now featuring a 38 millimeter case (2 millimeters larger than the predecessor reference), the watch kept its overall classical proportions with nearly similar stylization. The officer-case features a hinged caseback, providing the protection, weight, and gold value of a solid caseback while allowing for the option to be opened to view the wonderful in-house caliber 324 through the second sapphire caseback..

Flare is added to this perpetual calendar timepiece through the retrograde date which instantaneously 'flies back' upon reaching midnight at the end of each month. Furthermore, the former flat dial is now improved with a guilloché center, adding subtle elegance
