Patek Philippe coin watches are amongst some of the most charming and intriguing novelties made by the Maison and are admired by collectors of all kinds. Although made in small numbers, these watches were made for over 60 years with the earliest production beginning in the late 1920s, and the last production from the 1980s.
There were various versions of the coin watch and were designated from references 800 to 809: US $5 coin (ref. 800), US $10 coin (ref. 801), US $20 coin (ref. 802 & 803), CHF $100 coin (ref. 804), Pesos $50 coin (Ref. 805) and others. No other coin watches were since made by Patek Philippe.
To create these masterpieces, extreme precision was required to cut, hollow-out, and rebuild these coins, meanwhile carefully preserving their original faces. While many brands made coin watches over the years, Patek Philippe's are amongst the finest as their seams and button are perfectly melded to hide their 'secret' within.
The present reference 802 features a US $20 coin with an internally flipping out watch that has a beautiful champagne color dial with Breguet numerals.
