Unlike some of the more traditional works by Josephson in this auction, the present work encapsulates some of this more idiosyncratic works. At the age of 37 he was afflicted with a mental illness from which he recovered, but which nevertheless changes the character of his work, imbuing it with a tremendous expressionistic force.
