Lot Essay

The present drawing appears to be a preparatory study for a ceiling decoration. Previously attributed to Giovanni Lanfranco (1582-1647), an alternative attribution to the Bolognese Marcantonio Franceschini (1648-1729) has been suggested. No associated painted decoration is currently known.
