A Kerr & Binns 'Shakespeare Service' plate
probably decorated by Thomas Bott, gilt to the centre with a classical profile bust within roundels and flowerheads, the well gilt with egg and dart pattern reserved with anthemion, the border reserved with three raised oval panels painted with a portrait of the Bard and grisaille portraits emblematic of Tragedy and Comedy between moulded matt lionesses terminating in leaves and winged masks on a gilt speckled ground, printed brick-red mark -- 24.5cm. diam., circa 1853 (firing cracks to rim and slight wear)
