Lot Essay

This fine head from a reclining female figure has a rounded chin, a short, triangular nose low on the face, and a backwards-tilting forehead, all on a short, slightly tapering neck. The proportions of this head recall figures attributed to both the Kontoleon and Israel Museum Sculptors (see pls. 22 and 23 in P. Getz-Preziosi, Sculptors of the Cyclades, Individual and Tradition in the Third Millennium B.C.).
