Dedicated to Madame Yueyao
NOTE:
According to the current owners, the recipient Yueyao was their aunt, whose full name was Chen Yueyao. Yueyao was born in Hong Kong in 1920 into a family originally from Bao’an, Guangdong. During her youth, she visited a Xu Beihong exhibition while travelling in Singapore and developed a strong interest in his art. Chen passed away in the United Kingdom in 2001. The work was later inherited by the present collectors and has remained in their possession ever since.
