Further details
The current Singapore-based collector is a lawyer, who made multiple trips to Mainland China, Hong Kong, and other places during the 1980s and 1990s. Due to his passion for art, he often spent his spare time frequenting cultural relic stores, Friendship Stores, and auction houses, acquiring many calligraphy works and paintings. According to the collector’s recollection, Wu Zuoren’s Yaks in the Snow (Lot 181) was purchased in 1995 at the Beijing Friendship Store during a trip to Beijing with colleagues from his law firm. The Friendship Store subsequently invited Wu Zuoren’s wife, Xiao Shufang, to inscribe the titleslip for the painting. Li Keran’s Eight Buffaloes (Lot 182) was originally sold at an early auction in Hong Kong jointly held by Rong Bao Zhai (H.K.) and Associated Fine Arts Auctioneers, and was later acquired by the present owner.
