Fu Qi and Shi Hui, a renowned couple in Hong Kong’s film industry, both started their acting career at Great Wall Movie Enterprises Ltd. Fu Qi (Fu Kei, born Fu Guoliang, 1929, Shenyang) studied civil engineering at Shanghai’s St. John’s University before moving to Hong Kong in 1949. He worked briefly as an engineer before joining Great Wall in 1952, eventually transitioned to acting and starred in 58 films.
Shi Hui (Shek Wai, born Sun Huili, 1934, Nanjing) moved to Hong Kong in 1947 and joined Great Wall in 1951. She gained fame through films like Honeymoon and The Classic of Children, and starred in more than fourty movies. She became known as one of the “Three Great Wall Princesses” alongside Xia Meng and Chen Sisi. Her notable works include A Tiny Heart, Little Dancer, and Lan Huahua.
The couple met while filming Lan Huahua and married in 1954. Their daughter Gigi Fu also became an actress. After 1980, Fu entered business while Shek turned to social activism. They both became active in mainland China’s political and business circles, forming close relationships with artists like Huang Zhou, who gifted them many artworks. Part of the collection was sold at Christie’s auctions in the past and achieved notable results.
