First edition of a work on the plague by Pedro Pintor, private physician to Pope Alexander VI. No copies of this work, or indeed of Pintor’s work on syphilis the following year, are recorded at auction by RBH. Goff P-648; HC 13009; Klebs 779.1; BMC IV 119; BSB-Ink P-485; GW M33384; ISTC ip00648000.

Chancery folio (282 x 210mm). 92 leaves, with first blank leaf. Woodcut initials (occasional very minor stain, a few minor wormholes at beginning and end). Contemporary German half pigskin over unbevelled wooden boards, tooled with fillets and small ornament, single fore-edge clasp, title written on upper board, evidence of chain staple on lower board (later endpapers, lightly soiled). Provenance: Ulm, Wengenkloster of Augustinian Canons (?17th-century inscription of the college) – Georg Kloss, Frankfurt am Main (1787-1854; bookplate; his sale, Sotheby's, 12 May 1835, lot 3132) – Royal Society of Medicine (stamp as Royal Medical & Chirurgical Society).
