A Chinese Export black and gold-lacquer writing cabinet
decorated overall with foliate trails and chinoiserie courtly figures, in landscapes of pagodas and temples, the shaped cresting centred with a scallop-shell above a pair of panelled doors, enclosing a fitted interior of five drawers around a central mirrored door with two further wells and a door enclosing a later pocketwatch by W.E. Watts, Nottingham, Empire Leaver, the lower section with removable writing box with hinged flaps enclosing a fitted interior with green baize hinged writing surface flanked by pen trays and compartments, above a shaped apron, on cabriole legs with claw feet, inscribed with Chinese characters, second quarter 19th century -- 27¼in. (69cm.) wide
