Lot Essay

Sumowski published this drawing suggesting an attribution to Jan Victors (op. cit., no. 2346xx). The scholar pointed out how the composition is loosely linked to a painting by Victors of the same subject, dated 1652, in the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford (inv. 1958.266; W. Sumowski, Gemälde der Rembrandt-Schüler, IV, Landau, 1989, no. 1753).
