Lot Essay

'I visited Hong Kong in 1988 and while I was there we went to Lantau to see the giant Buddha, which is 34 meters high. This made a profound impression on me. So when I was asked to make a big piece for the Gainsborough Studios development, next to Regent's Canal, I knew that Alfred Hitchcock had started his film career there, so in my head I merged Hitchcock with Buddha' (private correspondence with the artist, March 2026).
