Lot Essay

Rockwell Kent traveled to Greenland on three occasions between 1929 and 1935. The present work is likely related to one of his earliest trips to the region, reflecting his awe with the stunning terrain. Shrouded in shifting clouds, the stunning purple mountains are carefully reflected in the flowing water. The present work illustrates the themes of isolation and the sublime that Kent mastered throughout his storied career.
