Accompanied by its full suite of accessories, the present Jules Audemars Grande Complication is the first model in the Audemars Piguet Tradition d'Excellence ‘Cabinet’ Collection launched in 1999. With one-minute tourbillon, minute repeater, and spit-seconds Chronograph, it is one of an ultra-exclusive limited edition of only 20 pieces. The watches of the ‘Cabinet’ Collection were never available to buy individually by the public, but only to those established clients who subscribed to the full series. Originally intended to be a series of eight different complicated watches, only five models have so far been produced, all cased in platinum and featuring a one-minute tourbillon with other high complications in an edition of 20 examples of each. The collection was aimed at creating a ‘cabinet’ of horological wonders, intended to demonstrate the brand’s technical prowess and highlighting traditional craftsmanship in tribute to the co-founders of the company, Jules Audemars and Edward Piguet.
Audemars Piguet considers a ‘Grande Complication’, to be the combination of at least 3 high horological complications, and the current watch features three of the highest, a tourbillon, a minute repeater and a split-seconds chronograph. The present watch belongs to the 1st series, featuring the celebrated Jules Audemars circular case. The exceptional caliber 2876 movement features a minute repeater on two hammers, a one-minute tourbillon visible through an aperture in the dial, the split-seconds chronograph is activated by the buttons in the band and crown.
This aesthetically and technically superb timepiece is without doubt one of the classic masterpieces of Audemars Piguet, it can be considered one of the most impressive achievements in watchmaking and an ultimate prize for the collector.
