We are delighted to present for the first time at Christie’s, one of the great rarities in the awe-inspiring realm of F.P. Journe – a ‘Pink on Pink’ Octa Divine Ref. D with a 36mm diameter case. Offered with the full set of accessories, the present watch is, according to research, only the third example of this configuration to appear at international auction. In excellent condition, this Octa Divine is a dream find even for the most seasoned of F.P. Journe collectors. Highly cherished, the present watch has never been worn by the present owner. The watch and buckle has also never been attached with strap to prevent any possible scratches that could be made.
Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful of all the original Octa Divine configurations, this ultra-rare ‘Pink on Pink’, often called the ‘Triple Pink’ due to its combination of 18k rose gold case, rose gold dial, and 18k rose gold movement. This specific combination is particularly iconic and extremely desirable in the 36mm case as it was the manufacture’s only 36mm watch, a highly wearable size that was unique to the Octa Divine model. The 36mm case was discontinued in 2015 along with the 38mm size.
The name ‘Octa’ was given as a prefix to all F.P. Journe’s automatic watches because in Latin it means ‘eight’ and the figure ‘8’ on its side signifies the concept of limitlessness or infinity. The Octa Divine introduced in 2002 was one of the first models to be produced with the automatic caliber 1300 following years in development. One of the few watches produced by F.P. Journe with centrally placed hands, the dial layout is asymmetric yet entirely harmonious, it displays several complications without any sense of overcrowding.
The pink gold dial plate is beautifully matte with a separate silvered hours and minutes chapter secured by screws. The power reserve indicator sector of 120 hours with a large date and moon phase with the F.P. Journe signature and the Latin inscription ‘Invenit et Fecit’ (invented and made). The blued steel hands are unmistakably and uniquely F.P. Journe. With 32 jewels, Journe’s exclusive caliber 1300.3 movement made from 18k pink gold is powered by an off-centre 22 carat gold rotor. It features the ‘Exclusive Power Reserve System’ it was the first automatic movement to provide 5 days or 120 hours of power reserve.
