Lot Essay

The present naturalistic table is constructed from a large section of gnarled rootwood and supports a lacquer top of conforming shape. In this example, the design is inspired and informed by nature. A similarly conceived root stand with solid panel top is illustrated in C. Evarts, C. L. Ma Collection: Traditional Chinese Furniture from the Greater Shanxi Region, Hong Kong, 1999, p. 202, no. 99.
