Lot Essay

The perpetual calendar chronograph is widely regarded as Patek Philippe’s most important and emblematic complication. One of the most elegant examples of this lineage is the present reference 5270/1R-001, which is distinguished by its exquisite ebony-black dial and matching solid pink gold bracelet. Its desirability is further enhanced by having been sold by Tiffany & Co., a prestigious association that underscores its provenance, even though the usual retailer’s signature does not appear on the dial.

Reference 5270
Reference 5270, which replaced the renowned reference 5970 at the Basel Fair in April 2011, represented a major advancement in the history of Patek Philippe's perpetual calendar chronographs. The calibre 29-535 PS, a manually wound chronograph movement that is entirely in-house and features the Patek Philippe Seal, powers the model. This calibre, which was initially introduced with reference 5170, embodies a new generation of chronograph construction by fusing contemporary technical advancements with traditional architectural design.

With the launch of the Patek Philippe Seal in 2009, the company set a new standard for mechanical watchmaking. This hallmark, which goes above and beyond current Swiss industry standards, covers accuracy, finishing, reliability and aesthetics and applies to the fully assembled watch as it is delivered to its owner. Additionally, it reflects the manufacturer's dedication to maintaining and repairing each watch it has made since 1839, highlighting the timeless appeal and horological significance of models such as the present 5270/1R-001.
