Lot Essay

Introduced in 1996, reference 5039 occupies a discreet yet important place within Patek Philippe’s lineage of perpetual calendar wristwatches. Produced until 2007, it represents a more ornate and refined interpretation of the manufacture’s celebrated perpetual calendar aesthetic.

Offered alongside its sister model, reference 3940, the 5039 was produced in significantly smaller numbers, with approximately 500 examples in yellow gold, such as the present timepiece, around 400 in white gold, and approximately 300 in pink gold. While sharing the same revered calibre 240 Q with automatic micro-rotor winding, the 5039 distinguishes itself through its more elaborate case design, notably featuring a finely executed hobnail bezel and elegantly downturned lugs. This combination of technical excellence and enhanced decorative detail gives the model a distinct identity within Patek Philippe’s perpetual calendar family.
