The Reference 5100R-001
Launched in celebration of the new millennium, Patek Philippe introduced reference 5100R-001 Gondolo in 2000. The large and whimsical 18k pink gold rectangular-shaped case features flared sides, drawing inspiration from the 1950s reference 2554, nicknamed the “Manta Ray.” Concave and convex elements are utilized throughout the streamlined case, helping the watch wear prominent and elegant on the wrist.
The dial is silvered grey 'ruthenium' color and shimmers with delight, complimenting the luster of the rose gold case. A closer inspection of the seemingly ordinary timepiece reveals an incredible sight. Thanks to double mainspring barrels, the watch boasts an impressive 10-day power reserve, much longer ordinary timepieces. The reverse has a sapphire caseback unveiling the impressive and appropriately shaped movement. The reference 5100R is a beguiling, splendid wristwatch that marks an important moment in time, and would make an excellent addition to any serious watch collection.
A total of 3,000 examples of reference 5100 were manufactured. Of these, 1,500 examples were made in yellow gold, 750 in pink gold, 450 in white gold, and 300 in platinum.
