Lot Essay

Launched in circa 2017, the Patek Philippe reference 5980/1400G-010 is among the most extravagant and rarely encountered interpretations of the celebrated Nautilus chronograph, representing the pinnacle of the Maison's high-jewelry sports watch production. Superbly lavish, bold, and utterly dazzling, the present example is factory-set throughout the watch with baguette-cut and brilliant-cut diamonds across the case, bezel, dial, and bracelet, creating a spectacular display of light and unmistakable wrist presence. Comprising an astonishing 893 diamonds totaling approximately 4.468 carats, along with 182 baguette-cut diamonds weighing approximately 15.46 carats, the watch has an original retail price of USD 788,066 and remains an exceptionally rare offering on the market. Preserved in excellent overall condition with only the lightest signs of handling, and furthermore accompanied by its original box and papers, the present timepiece—recently purchased in 2024—represents a remarkable opportunity to acquire one of the most opulent and bold modern Nautilus references ever produced.

The Reference 5980
Making its debut in 2006, the Patek Philippe Nautilus reference 5980 was introduced at Basel Fair during the 30th anniversary of the iconic reference 3700⁄1. As a vital complication of a sports watch, the reference is equipped with a chronograph function and the renowned “bull’s eye” subsidiary dial. This design captivated the heart of collectors by showcasing the hours in the inner part of the dial and minutes on the outer ring and was made possible thanks to Patek Philippe’s entirely in-house made chronograph calibre 28-520 C.
