Lot Essay
The relief manuscript cover is executed with pronounced depth, organizing its imagery around a central representation of Prajnaparamita, the personification of Transcendent Wisdom, enthroned upon a lion-supported seat and encircled by an elaborate prabhamandala. On either side appear Vairocana and Sakyamuni, each likewise enthroned, reinforcing the hierarchical symmetry of the composition. Surrounding these principal figures is a dense array of subsidiary imagery, including numerous small-scale Buddhas, bodhisattvas, and protective deities integrated within a matrix of scrolling vegetal ornament. The entire surface is contained within successive decorative borders composed of lotus petal bands, beaded molding, and stylized flame motifs.
