Lot Essay

This elegant white jade vessel may be compared to a Qianlong-marked white jade bowl and cover in the Palace Museum, Beijing, illustrated in Compendium of Collections in the Palace Museum: Jade, vol. 10, Beijing, 2011, p. 226, no. 177. Like the current example, the Beijing Palace bowl is carved on the exterior with lotus petals, and the cover is carved as a lotus pod which is further surmounted by a cylindrical receptacle with lotus-pod finial.
