Lot Essay

This rare cup is based on Yongzheng yuzhi-marked prototypes, such as the example from the Carnegie Museum of Art sold at Sotheby’s New York, 18 March 2025, lot 104. A pair of Jiaqing mark-and-period ruby-ground cups of this design is illustrated in Sotheby’s Hong Kong: Twenty Years, 1973-1993, Hong Kong, p. 176, pl. 222, and is illustrated in the Eskenazi exhibition catalogue, Qing Porcelain From a Private Collection, London, 2012, no. 19.
