Lot Essay

The present pair of prancing horses is realistically and powerfully rendered. The artist was exceptionally skilled at capturing the power of the present horses, posed here with one leg raised as they prance energetically. A similar example with elaborate trappings and a knotted saddlecloth was sold at Christie’s London, 6 November 2018, lot 8.

The result of Oxford Authentication Ltd. thermoluminescence test no. C199y44 is consistent with the dating of this lot.
