Lot Essay

The ingot shape of the current pillow was well-suited for its function as a head rest and appears to be somewhat unusual. A more typical pillow shape from this period is a waisted rectangular form with curved top, such as a molded green-glazed example sold at Christie’s New York, 20-21 March 2014, lot 2079.
