Lot Essay

The jar is well painted and enamelled with four quatrefoil medallions enclosing birds in flight, divided by fruiting and floral sprays. The shoulder has further quatrefoil panels, all against a cash-diaper ground.

A similar jar is illustrated in Sekai Toji Zenshu, vol.14, Tokyo, 1976, no. 208, with the outlines painted in green enamel; and a blue and white example from the Kwong Yee Che Tong collection, sold at Christie’s Hong Kong, 30 May 2024, lot 2814.
