Two years before the publication of Métal (1928), the seminal work of her career, Germaine Krull settled in Paris and made the city one of her principal fields of photographic experimentation. The streets of the capital then became a favored subject of her work, which she renewed through daring compositions and unprecedented viewpoints characteristic of the New Vision movement. The present print offers a perfect illustration of this approach: photographed from the window of an automobile, a line of vehicles immobilized in traffic is captured from a slight low-angle perspective, transforming an everyday scene into a distinctly modern composition.
