Lot Essay

A closely related Qianlong-marked copper-red-decorated meiping of similar form is preserved in the Palace Museum, Beijing and illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum: Blue and White Porcelain with Underglazed Red (III), Hong Kong, 2010, pl. 173. (fig. 1) However, it is decorated with only three auspicious fruits—peach, pomegranate and finger citron—rather than the expanded five-fruit design seen on the present vase.
