Lot Essay

Blue and white cups painted with this design are quite rare. Compare a pair of related cups, of the same design but decorated in copper red and slightly larger size, illustrated in The Tsui Museum of Art, Chinese Ceramics IV, Qing dynasty, Hong Kong, 1995, pl. 53. Another copper-red decorated cup is in the Palace Museum, Taipei, illustrated in Special Exhibition of K'ang-hsi, Yung-cheng, Ch'ien-lung Porcelain from the Ch'ing Dynasty, 1986, p. 49, pl. 7. (fig. 1)
