ECHOES OF INDIA
India has long occupied a special place in the creative vocabulary of Van Cleef & Arpels. From the splendour of the Maharajahs’ jewels to the country’s luxuriant flora and richly symbolic fauna, its artistic traditions offered the Maison an enduring source of inspiration. This fascination was reinvigorated during the 1960s and 1970s, when Indian culture, spirituality and ornaments captured the Western imagination. Vibrant gemstones, cabochon forms and sculpted yellow gold evoked flowers, foliage andfantastical creatures, while diamonds introduced radiance and movement. Reinterpreted through Parisian craftsmanship, these influences united the abundance of the natural world with the colours and opulence associated with India.
