Lot Essay

Dr. Augusta Rubin was a highly accomplished musicologist, classical pianist, and professor at The Juilliard School, New York. In 1963, she embarked on a pioneering solo voyage around the world, during which time she assembled a collection of paintings and antiquities. It is most likely that the present painting was collected during these travels.
