Among Rolex's most elaborate jewelry timepieces, the Pearlmaster occupies a category of its own. Unveiled in 1992 as an opulent evolution of the Lady-Datejust, the collection provided Rolex with a platform to combine the familiar Datejust architecture with precious metals and increasingly sophisticated gem-setting. Central to its identity was the purpose-designed Pearlmaster bracelet, recognisable by its broad, rounded links and fluid construction. Remaining in production for three decades before its discontinuation in 2022, the Pearlmaster became synonymous with the more extravagant side of Rolex watchmaking.
The present example is an especially impressive execution, crafted entirely in 18k white gold and extensively adorned with diamonds. A continuous river of brilliant-cut diamonds follows the outer edges of the bracelet and extends seamlessly onto the lugs, emphasising the flowing construction of the watch and creating an exceptional brilliance when worn. Framing the dial are a further 36 brilliant-cut diamonds set into the white gold bezel, completing the highly refined gem-set composition. The cool, monochromatic combination of white gold and diamonds gives the present timepiece a particularly elegant character, allowing the quality and extent of the gem-setting to take centre stage.
