Lot Essay
Created to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the Patek Philippe boutique in Zurich, operated by Beyer Chronometrie, the present reference was released in 2016 in a limited edition of just 25 examples. Cased in white gold, it is distinguished by an elegant blue dial, a configuration that had never before been offered on reference 5205. The special nature of the edition is further emphasised by the outer caseback, engraved 'Beyer 2016' to mark the anniversary. Reserved exclusively for Beyer's most valued clients, these commemorative watches rank among the rarest and most desirable variants of the reference.
Introduced in 2010, reference 5205 represented a new generation of Patek Philippe annual calendars, combining contemporary aesthetics with technical sophistication. Initially available in white gold and later in pink gold from 2013, the model features the patented instantaneous day, date and month display arranged beneath 12 o'clock, a mechanism derived from the manufacture's prestigious 'Grande Complication' reference 5207. Elegant, highly legible, and powered by the self-winding calibre 324, the reference has become one of the defining modern annual calendars in Patek Philippe's collection.
Beyer Chronometrie Zurich
Founded in 1760, Beyer Chronometrie is one of the oldest continuously operating watch retailers in the world. Managed by successive generations of the Beyer family, each trained as watchmakers, the company has retailed Patek Philippe timepieces for more than 175 years and was the first retailer in Switzerland dedicated exclusively to watches, clocks and jewellery.
The relationship between Beyer and Patek Philippe dates back to the earliest years of the Genevan manufacture and represents the longest uninterrupted retail partnership in the brand's history. In 2011, this exceptional collaboration was further celebrated with the opening of the first Patek Philippe boutique in Switzerland to be operated by an independent retailer, reaffirming the enduring bond between two of the most respected names in Swiss watchmaking.
