Lot Essay

Before establishing his own manufacture, Laurent Ferrier spent nearly 37 years at Patek Philippe, where he worked in product development and acquired the experience that would later shape his distinctive approach to independent watchmaking. In 2010, he presented his first creation, the Galet Classique, establishing an aesthetic defined by restrained elegance, traditional craftsmanship and sophisticated mechanics.

Designed as an elegant travel watch, the Galet Traveller allows the local hour hand to be adjusted independently without disturbing the minutes or home-time indication. Two discreet pushers positioned on the left side of the case, at approximately 8 and 10 o’clock, enable the local hour hand to be advanced or moved backwards in precise one-hour increments, allowing the wearer to adapt quickly when travelling between time zones.

At its heart is the self-winding calibre LF230.02, distinguished by Laurent Ferrier’s double direct-impulse natural escapement. Inspired by a principle originally conceived by Abraham-Louis Breguet in the late 18th century, the system employs two nickel-phosphorus escape wheels together with a silicon pallet lever to deliver energy efficiently to the regulating organ. Offering a power reserve of approximately 72 hours, this technically sophisticated movement perfectly complements the understated character of the Galet Traveller, concealing exceptional mechanical ingenuity beneath an elegantly restrained exterior.
