Offered by an important private collector, the present reference 5970G is accompanied by its full set of accessories. Furthermore, it is believed that no more than approximately 1'000 examples were produced in white gold, adding considerably to the rarity and collectability of the present timepiece.
Reference 5970
Introduced at Baselworld in April 2005 as the successor to the celebrated reference 3970, reference 5970 continued Patek Philippe's legendary lineage of perpetual calendar chronographs while introducing more contemporary proportions. The model immediately enjoyed enormous popularity among collectors and remained in production until approximately 2010.
Initially, reference 5970 was available in white and pink gold, with production of both versions ceasing in 2007. The yellow gold version was produced for an especially short period, only during 2008 and 2009. From 2009 until the end of production, the reference was offered exclusively in platinum. Its relatively short production period, combined with the limited quantities produced in each metal, has helped establish the 5970 as one of the most desirable modern Patek Philippe complicated wristwatches.
Reference 5970 also occupies an important position in the history of the manufacture as the last Patek Philippe perpetual calendar chronograph to feature the Geneva Seal on its movement. From mid-2009, Patek Philippe began replacing the historic hallmark with its own Patek Philippe Seal, introduced as a new and comprehensive quality standard for its mechanical timepieces.
